Initially founded in Shanghai in 1896 as the Nanyang Public College, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in China. XJTU is a comprehensive research university offering programs in 10 areas: science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, literature, law, philosophy, education and art with a major emphasis on science and engineering, consisting of 26 schools.
XJTU is one of the first universities granted the right to welcome international students with Chinese Government Scholarship by the Ministry of Education. Since 2000, XJTU has established cooperation with 145 universities and research institutions from 42 countries and areas including America, Japan, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Singapore, Korea
Until now, the university has taught over 5,000 international students from more than 52 countries and regions.
Currently, XJTU offers 20 English language Master programs and 2 Bachelor programs.

The University is located in Xi’an, the largest city in Northwest China, famous for its long history and glorious cultural heritage, including one of the eight wonders of the world- the Army of Terracotta Warriors of the Qin Dynasty. Xi’an is the birthplace of Chinese civilization and the starting point of the ancient “Silk Road” and was the capital of 13 historical dynasties in China.
Xi'an Jiaotong University has three campuses covering an area of1989400 square kilometers and gross floor area of 2038500 square kilometers:
- Yanta Campus (the East Campus) No.205 Zhuque Street;Four dormitory buildings, where Medicine majors and Finance majors live. The buildings are equipped with necessary electric appliances, studying room, communal kitchen, canteen and laundryroom. The dormitory buildings are close to the campus canteen, basketballcourt, playground, teaching buildings and library. Buses and restaurants whichcan satisfy the dietary needs of different foreign students are available inthe neighborhood.
- Xingqing Campus (the West Campus) No. 28 Xianning Road, Xi'an city, Shaanxi Province; the rest foreign students live on Xingqing campus. Three dormitory buildings in this campus areWest seven, West eight and West thirteen. Dormitory building is managed by specificpersonnel, and the cleaner tidy the rooms frequently, creating a favorable environment for overseas students. It only takes three minutes for students to get to library, canteen, basketball court and football field. The newly-builtcanteen is just located on the opposite side. Various cuisines, like South Korean food and western food are offered. Besides, thecanteen in the dormitory buildings is open all day, providing different kinds of delicacies.
- Qujiang Campus (the New Campus) is in No.99 Yanxiang Road, where Chinese students study and live in.
Foreign students mainly live in Xingqing and Yanta campus.
